Go through your ENTIRE system and document every piece of software and hardware, and all your plugins, and then verify that everything you want to keep has proper Vista support. Dual core is MUCH better with Vista, and 2GB memory is the memory starting point, IMO.ġ. Throw in some virtual instruments and it was at its knees. Home Premium for me was on a Pentium M single core 1.83GHz (roughtly as powerful as the P4 3GHz. It will turn on, and it will run like a dog. If that's the machine you're thinking of using, I'd suggest against Vista altogether. They don't seem interested in 64bit drivers, and aren't being particularly apologetic about it, so if you go 64bit Vista, you'll be buying some new hardware.Īlso, that P4 3GHz with 1.5GB memory isn't going to cut it for anything other than the most basic of DAW tasks, frankly. definitely stay with 32bit versions of Vista if you're planning on keeping your M-Audio stuff. It's actually slowly moving out of my setup (as are all things M-Audio, actually) because of this. I have an M-Audio Midisport 8x8, but unfortunately M-Audio isn't releasing Vista 64bit drivers, so I can't tell you how well it works.

Most current software has been patched for Vista 32bit now, so that's not an issue as much. But, I had to move some hardware around to come up with a setup with solid drivers (MOTU, Edirol, and finally EMU).Īs CJ said: drivers. That said, both my Vista Home Premium 32bit and Vista Ultimate 64bit functioned properly where MIDI and audio recording/playback were concerned (3rd party plugins, particularly on the 64bit side, were another matter).
